The ACM SIGCHI ProteaCHI has commenced planning our first in-person symposium which will take place between Monday the 19th to Thursday the 22th of October 2026 at Emeris Campus in Cape Town. Dates have changed – previously was 12-25th October.
Objectives and theme
The symposium aims to support the human-computer interaction community. The topic of the symposium is “Embracing HCI for an empowered Africa and South Africa!“. Your abstract and theme therefore should be closely related to this.
Scholarships
Are only available to a number of full time postgraduate students (Masters and PhD) within South Africa and Africa. Those outside of South Africa will be provided a budget of ZAR 9000 from ProteaCHI if they are selected. Thus, requiring that you need additional funding secured from either your supervisor or institution. Those not selected are also welcome to attend but will be required to cover the following costs when attending the symposium: accommodation, attendance, daily expenses, registration and travel.
Applications for scholarships close on the 31st of May at 17:00 (GMT+2).

- Academic ProteaCHI members: ZAR 2000, non-members: ZAR 6000.
- Industry/NGO and NPO ProteaCHI members: ZAR 3000, non-members: ZAR 7000.
- Student members ProteaCHI members ZAR 1000, non-members ZAR 4000.
