Critical AI Literacy for Children: learnings from India, Finland and the USA
We have a really exciting talk planned by Sumita Sharma who is a postdoc researcher in Human Computer Interaction (HCI) at the INTERACT Research Unit, University of Oulu, Finland. Her research focuses on focus on empowerment, inclusion, and accessibility using interactive and novel technologies for and with children and underserved user groups. In her ongoing work on Critical AI Literacy for children, she employs participatory approaches to discuss ethical AI with an emphasis on fairness and human agency and oversight in algorithmic decision-making.
This presentation will present a methodological approach towards Critical AI Literacy for children, showcasing children’s imagined ethical futures from field work in India, Finland, and The USA, and discuss the key findings from the project. The project website has resources for replicating whole or parts of the work in any classroom (with 10-12 year old children).
